This procedure describes the process for upgrading a Cisco 6500 Catalyst Switch w/ a WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE supervisor engine to ver 8.7.6-14 CAT OS.
Model: WS-C6509 WS-C6503 WS-C6513 WS-X6K-S1A-MSFC
Console Kit Required: Cisco Blue (Rollover)
Step 1: Boot the 6500 Series switch to ver 5.x.
Step 2: If you haven't already, assign an IP address to your switch.
Step 3: Console> (enable) copy tftp flash
Step 4: IP address or name of remote host []? 192.168.1.1
Step 5: Name of file to copy from []? cat6000-supk8.7-6-14.bin
Step 6: Flash device [bootflash]?
Step 7: Name of file to copy to [cat6000-supk8.7-6-14.bin]?
Step 8: 15990656 bytes available on device bootflash, proceed (y/n) [n]? y
You may have to format your bootflash before you copy the new image. This can be done by issuing the "format bootflash" command.
